THE MOSAICS IN THE CATHEDRAL'S GARDEN

The Cathedral's Garden is adorned with mosaics, known to have covered the floors of Byzantine churches that were discovered during the city excavation. Other mosaics were used as well to decorate private villas and Roman public buildings, such as the theatre. Some of Jbeil mosaics are exhibited today at the National Museum of Beirut.

One can notice the simple decorative motifs and the mythological or religious scenes that were accompanied sometimes with inscriptions. Some of these mosaics are considered as beautiful works of art, like the one representing the Abduction of Europa or the one with the Bust of Bacchus.
